How Successful Organizations Move From The Raiser's Edge to Blackbaud CRM

If you are moving from The Raiser's Edge to Blackbaud CRM, here are four things we've seen organizations do time and again to make for a more successful transition:

  1. Determine what works best in your RE world. It really helps to know what’s working well and what isn’t, so you can make confident decisions about how to use CRM. Processes, reports, codes, integrations, customizations, and other elements of your operations today should all be scrutinized and evaluated.
  2. Don't call it an upgrade. “Upgrade” means moving to a more current release of the same software. CRM is not the same as RE; it has a different back end and a different front end. You're still buying software from Blackbaud, but that’s where the similarity ends. Successful organizations don’t try to underplay what the move really is. You are implementing new software!
  3. Pay special attention to influencers. Each area of your fundraising team probably has an influencer—that person whose attitude can sway others. Their concern can unsettle your team, but their confidence can move everyone in the right direction. You don’t need to recruit influencers for project committees—they may love you more if you spare them. But personally showing them a few ideas, asking for informal reviews or to weigh in on a handful of key areas can build a lot of goodwill. Your subject matter experts can do heavy lifting, but personal rapport with influencers can make all the difference.
  4. This is a full time job. Make no mistake, there is a lot of work to do in a Blackbaud CRM implementation, and you can't afford to forget any of it. Project management, process re-design, conversion testing, reports and outputs development, user acceptance testing (to name a few)—a lot will be expected of you and your team. Successful organizations aren't afraid to help.
