MORE ABOUT JAMES

Where do you work? Where are you from?

I live and work in Medford, Oregon, only miles from the California boarder. Medford is located in the Rogue Valley and I am surrounded by the beautiful Siskiyou mountains. As an outdoor enthusiast, I can’t think of a better location.

I am originally from Southern Ontario, Canada, having grown up around the London, Ontario area. I attended the University of Waterloo before moving west to Vancouver, British Columbia. I then returned to my roots in Stratford, Ontario before migrating west again.

What do you do at JCA?

As the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) I focus on increasing JCA’s growth through technology and implementing effective strategies to achieve it. I oversee the company’s data science, engineering, and technology efforts, using innovation and partnership efforts to build business opportunities.

What do you do outside of JCA?

I am an avid gardener and have turned both my front yard and back yard into productive fruit and vegetable gardens, complete with everything from artichokes to zucchini. My daughter has also caught the gardening bug, and runs the University of Portland’s Student Lead Unity Garden (SLUG) while she finishes her nursing degree.

For those who know me, they know that music plays a big part in my life. I was a guitar player until recently where I switched to bass. Currently, I am playing a mix of genres with a small trio for fun.

When I am not gardening or playing music, you can find me outdoors in the mountains. I have fallen in love with rock climbing. When I am not at the several local crags climbing, I am travelling up and down the west coast climbing at some of the world’s greatest rock-climbing locations.
